According to Article 13 of the Law "On Protection of Consumer Rights", consumers have the right to receive complete and accurate information about the goods, works or services they purchase.
Yeniavaz.com reports that this information includes the quality of the product, the manufacturer, the production and expiration dates, the composition and other important characteristics.
It should be noted that although consumers can see this information about products sold in retail chains, they cannot see this information about products sold on most online trading platforms. Our research shows that such cases are especially common in the sale of food products. For example, when a consumer orders food products through "Wolt", a popular online delivery service, he only sees the name of the product and its photo. In some cases, sellers do not even post photos of the product on the platform. The consumer cannot see other information that should be disclosed about the product (production date, manufacturer, composition, etc.).
In a conversation with Yeniavaz.com on this issue, the Chairman of the Union of Free Consumers (UFC) Eyyub Huseynov stated that consumers have the right to receive complete and reliable information about the product. The Chairman of the UFC claims that there have been no major changes to the Law on the Protection of Consumer Rights, adopted in 1995:
“When the law was adopted, there was no online trade. However, even after the emergence of online trade, the necessary changes to the law were not made. Mr. President removed the State Service for Antimonopoly and Consumer Supervision from the Ministry of Economy and created the State Agency for Antimonopoly and Consumer Supervision under the President. Elnur Bagirov was appointed Chairman of the Agency two months ago. However, during these two months, no changes have occurred in the activities of the Agency, nor have there been any initiatives to amend the legislation. Complaints sent to the Agency continue to be lost there.”
