The Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population stated that the issue of lowering the retirement age for men and women in Azerbaijan was not discussed.
Yeniavaz.com reports that the ministry's statement, based on a “Trend” survey, cited as the reason for this that life expectancy will increase in the coming years.
The ministry said that life expectancy in 2050 will be 82.8 years for women and 79.8 years for men (the payment period will increase).
However, it is interesting that currently the average life expectancy in Azerbaijan is less than the pension payment period used in calculating pensions.
The Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population, when calculating pensions for citizens, takes the period of pension payments to be 12 years (144 months).
According to current legislation, the period for payment of pensions is the difference between expected average life expectancy and retirement age.
However, according to published official statistics, in 2022 the pension payment period in Azerbaijan was 11 years (132 months), and in 2021 - 9.6 years (115 months).
If the ministry considers it impossible to lower the retirement age based on the fact that average life expectancy will increase in 2050, then why are pensions not calculated based on the current average life expectancy?
That pensions are not currently calculated in accordance with the requirements of current legislation.
This was previously reported in detail on the Yeniavaz.com. Although an official request was sent to the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population on this issue, it has not been possible to receive an answer to date.
